A Transdermal Patch delivers CBD in accordance with a physical chemistry property known as Fick’s Law. This determines how much active ingredient passes through the skin, per square inch of patch area per hour of time.
When using a Transdermal Patch, the most important consideration is how much of the active ingredient gets through your skin, a process known as diffusion. Diffusion is the process of the active ingredients coming out of the patch and passing through your skin and into your bloodstream. This is done through the normal physical activity of your skin when you apply the patch. All patches work this way. Some patch manufacturers even add enhancers to improve diffusion such as oleic acid. Not YouAndMeAndCBD. We never use enhancers.
Diffusion testing, done in a lab using membranes to replicate the normal physical activity of human skin, measures what comes out of the patch and at what rate it comes out. It is widely accepted as an objective way to determine how effectively a patch works.
In an October 2020 independent diffusion test conducted against 8 other Transdermal Patches of the same construction, YouAndMeAndCBD out-performed the competition over 24-hours.
Why? Fick’s Law still applies, but we’ve layered a unique adhesive polymer matrix into our patches knowing that different adhesives will give different performances for the same active ingredient, at the same patch concentration, solely due to the differences in the chemistry of the adhesives used to make the patch.
The conclusions are clear: The adhesive chemistry, including its compatibility and interactions with active ingredients, has a major influence on the overall patch performance, measured as the amount delivered through the skin.
